The Long And Winding Road

So, it is two years ago (December 2022) since I left rehab. Going home was, to say the least, a shock to the system and took some adjustment to what “used” to be my life.

In other areas of this website, I've suggested keeping a journal and video diaries of your progress. Doing so has helped me hugely; making this video has been a big struggle. I'm very happy with how far I've come. Still, I've never been confident, and the changes to my physical appearance and life have dented my confidence further, so looking back at past pictures and videos has been difficult. Making it has taken the best part of a year. When I started back in March, looking at clips from the early days made me uncomfortable. I wouldn't say I'm 100% ok with it now, but I'm far less awkward than I used to be. Learning to accept my altered reality is why I decided to create this video.

I don't think I can adequately describe how grateful I am for everyone who has been there for me. I have incredible support from my family, especially my husband. I have worked with some amazing therapists who, without their effort, I would not have progressed this much. I want to extend a huge thank you to the team at The Wellington Hospital in London and my community occupational therapist, Cheryl. The most enormous thank you has to go to the two incredible surgeons at the National Hospital For Neurology And Neurosurgery in London, Mr Kitchen and Mr Toma, without whom I would not be here today.

The video below is highlights of the past two years.
